Product Care

Table of Contents

Huong’s Jewellery products require some simple and basic care that you can preserve and protect your jewelry at home.

Dust, pollution and daily wear will affect the appearance of gemstones and pearl jewelry over time. The surface of gold and silver jewelry can become dulled and oxidized. Frequent wear, touch or accidental dropping can result in the loss of a stone or an entire piece of jewelry.

We recommend professional cleanings for your jewelry at least once a year, or preferably once every 6 months for occasionally worn jewelry and once every 3 months for daily worn ones. We encourage you to bring your Huong’s Jewellery products back to us for professional cleaning. Our staff is knowledgeable and experienced in jewelry care, including cleaning gemstones, polishing gold and silver jewelry. Moreover, we also offer restringing pearl chains and repairing clasps and earring stud holders.

Sterling Silver Jewelry

For jewelry, Huong’s Jewellery provides sterling silver 925 in all silver items. Sterling silver contains 92.5% pure content, which makes the metal harder than 100% pure silver. This material is more durable and suitable for jewelry making to create fashionable designs.

Please note that silver jewelry is soft and delicate. Hence, you should be careful not to use too much pressure when opening the clasps or ear posts of any silver items. They can bend or break under excessive force.

Because sterling silver is an alloy, it requires cleaning frequently to avoid being tarnished or oxidized. With proper care, your silver will retain its beauty and character for many generations to come. To prolong the oxidizing process, Huong’s Jewellery offer white gold plated treatment in most of our sterling silver jewelry items.

Influencing Factors

Moisture, pollution, dust and oxygen in the air make sterling silver jewelry quickly become tarnished and dulled.

Moreover, salt air or salty sweat is another main reason for oxidized silver jewelry.

Perfumes, hair sprays, and other chemicals can also cause a quicker formation of tarnish.

Cleaning Procedures

For daily care, we suggest you use a soft cotton cloth to gently clean the jewelry before and after wearing it.

For light tarnished silver jewelry, please use a pea size of non-gel and non-abrasive toothpaste in a cotton cloth, and rub thoroughly the surface of silver jewelry. Then rinse the jewelry thoroughly in warm water and carefully dry. This will remove the tarnish and dullness, keeping your sterling silver shine.

Please note: toothpastes that contain sodium lauryl sulfate should be avoided.

Oxidized Silver/Blackened Silver Jewelry

Blackened or oxidized silver jewelry is sterling silver 925. The surface is intentionally blackened or darkened to make the decorative details stand out more vividly and have a vintage look. For this jewelry, please clean as much gently as possible with soft cotton cloth without any chemical treatment because the blackened finish can be easily removed by over rubbing the surface. We recommend you to bring all blackened silver jewelry to our showrooms for professional care each time you want to clean.

Storing Silver

It is important to keep silver jewelry carefully after use and professional care. With proper storing, silver jewelry can be protected from tarnish and abrasion. Please store all jewelry in appropriate jewelry boxes or jewelry organizers and separate one item from another. Leave them in dry places and avoid frequent exposure to air and sunlight. Plastic bags with zippers are also very effective in preventing oxidation.

If you wish to have your silver polished and chemical clean, please contact us via Customer Service at Hotline (84) 85 281 4372.

Gold Jewelry

Gold jewelry can be maintained at home. Unlike sterling silver, gold jewelry is not easy to be oxidized with exposure to air and sunlight. However, chemicals may affect surface and coat of gold jewelry.

Gold jewelry (18k gold or 14k gold) is durable but it is still a soft metal. Before wearing, examine your jewelry to make sure settings and clasps are secure. Please be careful not to put too much pressure while opening and closing the clasps.

Gold can be discolored and probably disintegrated by exposing to harsh chemicals (For example: household bleach and povidone-iodine medicines).

It is important to store gold jewelry to keep it from any damage. At the time of purchase, Huong’s Jewellery provides a protective box for gold items. Please keep the boxes to store the jewelry after each use.

Gemstone Jewelry

Pearl Jewelry

Pearl is known as the one and only gemstone that comes from a living creature. Fine cultured pearls with thick nacre layers will last for generations if you take care of them properly.

Cultured pearls should be kept free of perfumes, cosmetics, sweat and dirt. After taking off pearl jewelry, please wipe the items gently with damp soft cotton cloth. Avoid using polyester fabric to wipe the pearls because it may cause scratches on surface of the luster.

Huong’s Jewellery cultured pearl necklaces are strung on silk threads with knots between each bead. Over time, the silk thread will stretch, weaken and get dirty. If worn often, pearl jewelry should be cleaned and restrung professionally once every 6 months.

We recommend storing pearl jewelry separately from one another to avoid scratch.

Other Gemstones

Gemstone jewelry requires a special care during use and storage. Avoid contact with chemicals to protect the gemstone’s surface and colors. Moreover, the stones can easily break or chip if you hit the items against hard surfaces. Most of gemstones are very delicate and easily abraded by external forces.

Gemstones can scratch other gemstones so please avoid stacking them during use and storage. Extreme temperatures, perfumes, cosmetics, ultrasonic cleaning and household chemicals can also damage jewelry.

You should store your gemstone jewelry in jewelry boxes/cases/organizers. Please wipe the jewelry gently with a cotton cloth after each use and let them completely dry before store them in sealed boxes.
